Carpet Specialists did a wonderful job removing a tired carpet from my parents home. In the meantime, they found moisture under the carpet & in the walls, indicating that some waterproofing was needed. They were responsive, professional, and did exactly what they said they would do. I'm so thankful to have the carpet removed. Air quality is important for all of us, especially as we get older.
I contacted Carpet Specialists on Thumbtack for a clear job, getting my house carpet cleaned, having the stairs carpet tightened, and tightening one loose spot in the attic. They provided a quote totaling $1,790.00 ($1,650 subtotal + $140 tax) that included whole-house stretching. Offering whole-house stretching as an option wasn't an issue on its own, but the real problems started when I told them I only wanted those three specific items done. They clearly did not like that I declined the extra work, and that is when they added unacceptable language to the paperwork. After I asked to proceed with only the three items I requested, they insisted on adding a line pre-printed on the quote stating: "Property owner acknowledges that stretching/repairing needs to be done in other areas of the home but does not want those services done at this time!" Falsely claiming that I acknowledged defects or necessary repairs in my home on an initial estimate is completely dishonest. An estimate should be a contractor's recommendation, not a forced, fake confession from the customer. It got worse. The estimate warned that unperformed stretching "may cause injury if not repaired or stretched out immediately," trying to intimidate me with fear of bodily harm and lawsuits. Carpet Specialists is a carpet cleaning business—not a licensed structural repair contractor, risk assessor, or legal team. Using scare tactics about injuries and lawsuits to bully customers into buying unnecessary extra work is an aggressive, high-pressure sales tactic meant to exploit uneducated consumers. When I confronted the owner about this unacceptable language, she claimed her business insurance policy and bonding forced her to put those warnings on the quote. Having worked for years as a licensed insurance agent and a commercial, bodily injury, and property damage claims adjuster, I knew right away that was complete nonsense. Standard general liability policies do not require contractors to slap injury disclaimers and forced customer admissions onto a routine quote. She also claimed in writing that Carpet Specialists is an official, approved vendor for CMHA (Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority) and CHN, insisting that CMHA would fail a property inspection for even a "single carpet wrinkle." They claimed to be an official vendor on a platform with CMHA, but when I searched official public directories and databases, their affiliation could not be verified or substantiated. As a rental property owner for 21 years managing multiple units, I have never had a property fail inspection over carpet wrinkles. Housing inspectors look for real safety and tripping hazards, not minor cosmetic wrinkles. When I refused the extra work and called out these false claims, things turned completely hostile: They desperately tried to salvage the deal by slashing the price down to $870 and then $800 with "coupons." When I held my ground on principle, the owner lashed out, accusing me of trying to "dismantle" her business and complaining about having to pay Thumbtack lead fees. She started throwing personal insults at me (including randomly texting "Blessed is not a feeling! Look it up!"). Once she realized I saw right through these deceptive methods and wasn't going to fall for their high-pressure sales tactics, she blocked me on the platform—not that I cared, but it only further demonstrates the complete lack of integrity and professionalism of this business. I am attaching screenshots of our full written message exchange and quote for complete proof and transparency. Do not let this company intimidate you. Always read the fine print, double-check any claims they make about official vendor status or housing rules, and don't fall for ridiculous scare tactics. I strongly caution other homeowners and landlords against using Carpet Specialists if you value honest pricing, verified claims, and professional boundaries.
Very pleased with their service and quality of work performance very pleasant to deal with however they can improve the method of their pricing. After photos price was provided and once they got there and reviewed the material there was a slice increase which I approved before they left. It was another $10 which I did not approve. I recommend written estimates but again very pleased with the work performance.
we are very pleased with the carpet stretching and cleaning that Hector and Lisa did at our home. It feels and looks like new carpeting again. They were easy to work with and respectful of the property. They arrived prepared and finished the job in less that 2 hours. Highly recommend Carpet Specialists.

I would like to thank Lisa and Hector for coming into our home to repair some problems with our basement carpeting. From contacting Carpet Specialists on Thumbtack to both of them finishing the job was easy to do. I explained my carpet situation to them via messaging and photos as to what was needed. The carpet needed restretching, some seaming and reattached to carpet strips. They showed up and took time to do the job right and they came back in a few days after letting the carpet dry and set after shampooing before finishing the job completely. I would recommend giving them a try if your carpets need repair or cleaning. Lisa and Hector were very personable and did their job well and it was fairly priced. Photos are finish pictures of repairs.
Hector and Lisa did an amazing job repairing three areas of carpet and then cleaning the carpet throughout the entire house. Would highly recommend!
Glue on back of carpet pulled right up. Recut on the fixed carpet poorly done and they removed part of the carpet padding which left a dent.
