About Chessmate Eugene
Hello, my name is Gib ----- and I am a U.S. Chess Federation certified coach. I offer online classes to those who want to learn or improve their game. After years of playing on the competitive chess circuit, I changed my focus. I wanted to ensure future generations could understand & love the game that has played such a significant role in my life. Since I was very young I've had a knack for chess and other board games. My diagnosis as being on the Autism spectrum confirmed that I had the perfect brain for this game & that this was the life for me. While I have coached people of all age and skill levels my primary focus has been working with young adults in middle school and high school. I also love working with senior citizens. I teach everything from basic movements and rules to advanced strategy. My coaching caters to the skill set of the student and adapts as the student advances. My love of the game and my love of introducing people to the game allows me to be patient, analytical, and fueled by joy. Let me give you a free 15 minute consultation so you can see why I'm the right coach for you. With rare exceptions Sundays and Mondays are my days off.

Gib is very nice and easy to work with. He’s very funny and knows a lot about chess. He is patient with beginners and gives some good feedback.
Nice guy, good personality, wonderful knowledge re chess.
Eugene helped my son with his Chess game. He was very good to work with and my son looks forward to his lessons. We are going to our first out of town tournament this weekend and my son is feeling more prepared and more confident since training with Eugene
Gib is a really sweet guy who is passionate about chess. He’s also very flexible and understanding, willing to teach what you want to focus on. I’d recommend his lessons.
Gib is a great teacher and a super friendly guy! I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to get better at chess. After playing a game and chatting for a bit he pinpointed my weaknesses, explained them clearly, and recommended a set of exercises that focused my practice time. He also taught me how to analyze my own games and learn from my (and my opponent's) mistakes which is a lot harder than I thought, but is an invaluable skill. Thanks Gib!
Working with Gib has been really exciting and very rewarding! He is as good a teacher is he is a chess master. The insights that I have gained under his guidance have brought my game to a new level. I’ve found my life long chess coach!
I have never met someone more knowledgable in Chess, than Gib. He took me from a beginner to a competent player in a matter of a few weeks. He is as kind as he is patient. Highly recommend to anyone who loves the great game of chess.
I look forward to my lessons with Gib. He is patient, a great listener, and constructive. He approaches the game in a way that someone without an encyclopedic knowledge of openings and defenses can understand, and improve their game. Highly recommend!
Absolutely fantastic. I'm a fairly decent player who just has the occasional propensity to blunder and he helped me identify some holes in my gameplay and strategy. Looking forward to sitting down with him again after I've had a chance to play more games.
