I contacted Edney Home Repairs on Thumbtack for a kitchen sink and garbage disposal install, as well as connecting the dishwasher hose to the garbage disposal. Nathan got back to me within a couple of hours and indicated he was available to do the work on the upcoming Friday - 3 days later! Nathan kept me informed of his timing and a slight delay (25 mins.) the day of service (11-7-2025). I was fully prepared to give him 5+ stars on the basis of his responsiveness. That changed when Nathan stepped through the front door with a hand written contract that outlined $150.00 per hour rather than the $95.00 per hour in his Thumbtack advertisement! I said his Thumbtack ad stated $95.00 per hour. He explained that he charges $150.00 an hour for plumbing and the $95.00 per hour is for jobs like sheet rocking, etc. When I asked if the $150.00 would only be charged if he was actually doing plumbing, he said it would be for the entire time spent on the job, which he said would only take a “couple of hours”. (It’s worth noting that the plumbing did not need to be changed out, just disconnected and reconnected.) I hesitantly agreed (because he was there). Even though the outside dimensions were the same as the dimensions of the sink he had removed, Nathan had to trim the hole so the new sink would fit. In doing so, he damaged the counter Formica. When finished with the job 3 ½ hours later, Nathan pointed out a large Formica chip next to the sink edge, where he had stuck a piece of the chip in the hole using caulk. (Once he left, I removed that piece because it needed to be glued in place rather than stuck there with caulk. I also located the other half of that chip in the next room under the dining room table.) Two other areas of Formica were chipped as well. (See photo.) Nathan deducted 10% from his bill because of “the misunderstanding” - not a phrase I would use because there’s no misunderstanding the $95.00 fee in Nathan's posting. Essentially, he charged me $135.00 per hour instead of the $95.00 advertised. He said, ‘No one had ever brought that to his attention before’ adding he ‘would change it in his ad as soon as he got home’. I’m writing this on 11-18-2025, 11-days after Nathan did the work and his ad still lists his work at $95.00 per hour. In addition to the increase in price, Nathan also charged a $16.53 credit card processing fee, again without advance notice. Edney Home Repairs failed on all 3 of its goals - it did not provide a 5-Star experience, create a long-lasting customer relationship, or achieve 100% satisfaction. Buyer beware!
