I cannot discourage you any more strongly to NOT use this company. They were rude, unprofessional, did shoddy work, destroyed my property and refused to complete the job after receiving payment. I hired Genesis Overhead Doors through Thumbtack on July 13, 2026. I explained to John that I’m disabled and on a fixed income. He asked what I could afford. He said he could work with me and his suppliers but would still need about $800 more for the whole project. I confirmed “the whole project” and told him I would need to borrow the rest. He said there is a 4% charge to pay using my card and again, I told him I was pinching Pennie’s and could not even afford that so he waited a day until I could pay the deposit in cash. Work on the project was to start on July 14th according to John’s texts. They did not start until August 4th. John claimed delayed on weather, suppliers, and sometimes just never responded. The workers were all very polite and professional. The work was not. Pictures included of some of the craftsmanship. My gardening station was destroyed and they broke the concrete base for my gutters. They left their trash like cans and wrappers all over the yard and the debris pile fy the old deck. And they left their trash old deck. When I contacted John, he claimed hauled away wasn’t included which was news to me. We discussed hauling repeatedly. At one point he told me they had to build new posts but were leaving the old ones behind. Again, I said I can’t possibly move that stuff by myself. At that point, John said he would have his friend take those with the rest…but that pickup never came and John never responded. He told me that he would contact me by last Friday and I’ve still heard nothing. Now I have a poorly constructed deck, trash all over my yard and a hefty bill to get this cleaned up before the HOA applies fines. I recommend this company to a friend and quickly rescinded that recommendation. I wouldn’t use this company for ANYTHING. I will be pursuing a claim to recover damages from this project. Again, I do NOT recommend Genesis Overhead Doors or John for any project. I’ve used Thumbtack for years and never given a bad review. I’m so disappointed in this job.

I appreciated the communication and value of work performed...Great group of workers who performed a outstanding job with efficiency!!...would recommend to anyone that's interested in their work!!!
No effective communication with business. Very unprofessional.
John came out to provide a quote on a deck upgrade and garage servicing. He advised me he would send me a quote later that day and have someone to come out to service the garage doors. After not hearing from him, I reached out to him a 2nd time. Days later I still had not received the deck quote as promised, never received the garage service as promised and never received an explanation as to why he could not do it. This was a demonstration of unprofessionalism and a complete waste of time.
Great response time
I am very satisfied with the deck stairs installation that was recently completed by Genesis. The stairs are beautiful, well-made, and easy to use. I am particularly impressed with the quality of the workmanship. The stairs were installed precisely and securely, and they are a great addition to my deck.
Genesis is a fabulous company. They removed my original deck and replaced it with a beautiful larger deck. John and his crew were amazing. The price was fair. They were responsive and worked efficiently. I highly recommend them. In fact, I will be using them again in the very near future to redo my kitchen and install new flooring. Turns out they have many talents. 👍❤️
Comes 2 hours past the agreed upon timeline and then just ghosts the customer for invoicing afterwards.
John has done good work for us so far. We are still mid project.
John covered and screened our porch, including relaxing the posts so the porch was up to code. He was very good about keeping us up to date on timelines and making sure to talk through what we were trying to do to keep everyone on the same page. Finished product looks great!
