I entered my job on Thumbtack along with pictures of a small chandelier I wanted removed and a larger e.g. heavier chandelier I wanted installed! I also included that the ceiling on the landing was higher than 12 feet. I received 2 responses on Thumbtack and accepted a response with an estimated cost from Howard Electric. I set up an appointment for a Saturday. Upon arriving, Jaden came in with his ladder and looked at the smaller chandelier and wiring, I then asked if "anything needed to be changed to installed the larger chandelier" and he said "no". He removed the old chandelier, assembled the new one and installed it. Looking up at the chandelier from the first floor where I was standing, everything looked great and the lights were working. I then commented the new light hanged shorter than the old one and I was happy because I had a new bed coming and it would be out of the way. Jaden then told me that if there was a problem I could just move the chandelier back alittle! Surprized, I told him the light shouldnt move, the canopy needed to be flushed to the ceiling and he said "it was installed securely and would not come down". I paid him via Zelle and he left! I went upstairs to my second floor, turned to admire my new chandelier and that is when I saw that the canopy was about an 1 inch (est) away from the ceiling! And I could see a part of the metal junction box! I got worried! (see pictures). l emailed Jaden through Thumbtack about the problem with the install and 3 days later he emailed back that the light was fine, he used the old junction box, it was within code and to change the box he would need to cut into the ceiling and that would cost an additional $250! Now, the change out of the electrical box could have been part of the initial job, especially since I'd asked if changes were needed!? The fact that after examing the wiring I wasnt told about necessary additional work needed for a safe install and the light was installed anyway, is a problem! The existing junction box is not rated for a heavier chandelier, and this is something an electrician should know. I cannot in good conscience have him to return to do anymore electrical work in my house. I contacted Thumbtack and their Service Guarantee was honored. I will be looking for a certified electrician to correct this issue and to install the correct junction box rated for the weight of my new chandelier. This is so unfortunate, he really is a nice young man, but with electric you have to make sure a job is done safely and realize your limitations.

I’m incredibly impressed with Jaden who I got to work with. He’s exactly the type of person you’d want working on your home - professional, responsive, smart, and took pride in his work. We had one of those jobs together where the more we opened things up, the trickier it got. Jaden dealt with plaster walls, multiple outlets, running new wires, smart home devices, and a deviously mis-wired HVAC from the prior owners. For what was an ‘easy task on paper’ with some curveballs, Jaden made himself available - coming back over to finish the job and was incredibly diligent to make sure everything was done perfect. Jaden cleaned up after himself, very nice guy, super motivated. I’ll never have another guy run electric at my home besides Jaden again! Well done!
