I asked if the person could do a tangental task (helping with scholarship applications), and the replies did not directly address the question. The text was basically a cut and paste reply. My math students have ranged from 3rd Grade to Juniors in high school and up to college algebra. In all cases, their grades are now higher after I began to help them. Then there are adults with requests for assistance in a variety of subjects. I bring to my students my engineering background that differs from what many students get from their teachers. Basically, whenever possible, I show them more than one way to work problem. Reason? Because all students think differently so my goal is to give them an opportunity to choose one way that helps them solve it. I tell my students, if your way works for you, then continue to use it. However, if your method doesn't give you the grade you want, you should try something different. I love teaching. I started teaching electronics in a business school while I was working on my engineering degree. I continued throughout my engineering career - before I became a high school math teacher. Now I am a tutor. My biggest thrill comes when my students happily come to me with their latest grade on their math test. I ask them, how does this grade compare to what they usually get. When they reply it's the highest they have ever gotten, I think, gee, I really helped them. Needless to say, their parents are thrilled.

We hired Chuck to help our 17yr old son, Mark, prepare for his SAT and ACT. Chuck was always on time meeting my son which I love because I love punctuality. My son really liked Chuck and didn't mind meeting with him at all on his own time. Chuck was understanding to my son work schedule. Also, Chuck was able to give Mark ways of understanding the questions better so Mark can get through the questions thoroughly but faster and with confidence. His practice tests clearly showed the improvements that Chuck was helping him with.
Chuck worked with my raising 5th grader to review the past year and work on upcoming skills. He was great with her. Very patient and made it fun for her. She didn't hate tutoring the way she thought she would. He explained everything on her level and really helped her gain confidence in her math skills. We hope to continue with Chuck during the school year.
Chuck is a great tutor! He is kind and patient. Our daughter worked with him for the second half of the year mostly on math. Her grade improved a full letter, and more importantly, she reports that her understanding of the concepts are what gained the most improvement. I would highly recommend Chuck for tutoring, and plan to hire him next year when our daughter enters high school.

I hired Chuck to proofread a cookbook and he exceeded my expectations. I thought he was only going to fix any grammatical errors, but, instead, he made a lot more recommendations and fixed other little things that really made a difference in making the cookbook look professional.
Chuck is an excellent tutor. Able to help my freshman son get back on track in Algebra I. Highly recommend him.
