We chose Ivy Contractors to turn our garage into an ADU. They were really easy to work with. In our first meeting they showed us example 3D renderings and real-life photos of what they had made for other clients. We really liked the ideas that they showed us and also the fact they were digitally-oriented, as we had already started our “vision” in 3D in Sketch-up. We gave their architect our design ideas and he turned it into drawings with all the necessary adjustments and details that they worked with our city to approve and then they continued working with the city for each inspection. The contract was very simple but thorough, with payments scheduled for each phase completed. We also really liked having the project details in one big group text-a simple but effective approach. The packaged concept of kitchen cabinets and flooring options we could choose kept the process streamlined, but we were able to bring in our own adjustments such as a big sliding wall. We also liked working with their interior and exterior designers, picking out colors and tile and bathroom cabinets and fixtures etc. who rendered it all in 3D for us. Every project has its hiccups but everything was always quickly addressed, and also Ivy was proactive catching problems too. The result was something spectacular in our humble opinion. In fact, when people in the neighborhood walk by, they are very complimentary and say things like “You did it right!”

They did not show up for their appointment time. They said they tried to confirm the appointment, but only asked to confirm the address, which was already confirmed. They didn't call or leave a message, yet saying they did. If a company will not show up for their appointment time, they won't show up for the job. It is very important for contractors and their employees to show up on time. If they have a scheduling problem, they need to make every effort to reach the customer to let them know.

They initially told me it was going to take a week… Three weeks after the job started, they were still in my home, repairing their own work. Redoing things the correct way. One of their employees pulled his penis out and pissed on the side of my home. I walked around the corner and saw him. This was after I had tipped the entire crew and bought them lunch that day. I bought lunch and tipped the guys a 20, every day, for the first two weeks. The walls were still warped, light sockets were crooked, things were unprofessionally done, paint didn’t match. Most of the third week of construction, was them redoing things they had done a half-assed job on, the week before. There were six or eight people in the group chat that they put me in. But took 20 minutes for them to respond, when one of their employees almost set my kitchen on fire…. One of their demo guys “accidentally“ cut a primary electric wire of mine, and so their in-house electrician had to come in and rewire some things in my home. I had them install two different slider doors, both doors arrived incomplete, without handles and or door locks. They damaged my driveway, and when they “repaired“ the damage spot, the repair doesn’t match. Their employees“accidentally“ took my property, four wheel dollies and construction supplies, that belong to me, with them, twice. The sales person will be attentive and will respond quickly, until they get you on the hook, after that… It may take hours or until the next day to get a response from the group chat. That’s all they leave you with, a group chat, where no one accepts responsibility, and no one has any real answers. Definitely going to ask thumbtack to refund some of this work. I regret reaching out to them, I regret working with IVY, I regret hiring them, I regret trusting them. I would not recommend anyone ever hire this company. I am concerned that some of their shoddy work is going to break down and they will not honor their warranty, because of my public review… But we will see.

They sent a young guy to give us an estimate. He said he needed to take some pictures, so I agreed. Later, he was taking selfies and photos of the view, then said their minimum project is $10k. I asked why he was there since we only needed small balcony repairs well under $10k and I told that on the phone. Such a waste of time and scamming for big money😒.
