Music is my passion. I teach students of all ages, but I specialize in lessons for children. I have been teaching for 40 years, with the last 14 offering in home music lessons. This was a huge convenience for my clients, given the traffic in our region. We switched to all Virtual lessons in March of 2020 due to the Pandemic. We now teach students from all over the country. With over 42 years of live performance experience, and decades of experience as a session vocalist and guitarist, I can mentor my students in a way that few other instructors can offer. Many of my students study with me for years. What makes my lessons so special? 1. All my students feel like rock stars! Because I make sure each lesson is both fun and enriching. 2. I don’t overbook myself so my current clients get the full benefit of my energy. 3. I use a song based teaching system so my students are learning songs they love while they get the academic benefits of music. 4. I provide a clear lesson plan complete with goals, achievement levels, and performances. 5. Jim is an exceptional guitar teacher—attentive, fun, and genuinely engaging. I had been stuck on barre chords for years, but after just a few weeks of working with him, I made more progress than I ever thought possible. He really listens and adapts his teaching to what you need. I only paused my lessons to focus on my thesis, but I fully intend to return as soon as I can. Highly recommend giving him a try!
Jim is an excellent instructor and aside from his teaching, he’s extremely caring and kind. Not only has he helped me grow as a guitarist, he also has a lot of empathy, creating a safe space. I liked that he allowed me to have agency in choosing songs I wanted to learn and his patience. He doesn’t expect perfection, which takes a lot of stress off the table. I highly recommend him!
Jim’s method of teaching is expertly tailored to the student. For example, when I started my lessons with Jim, I considered myself an intermediate player. He assessed my playing skills, designed exercises and then built a curriculum unique to me to help me. He introduced me to barre chords and taught me techniques on how to properly position my fingers and wrist to get the strongest sounds. Jim is patient and doesn’t mind answering the same questions or showing you the same techniques over and over! It is wonderful working with him and I HIGHLY recommend him no matter your skill level.
Jim really knows how to relate to younger aspiring musicians and make them feel comfortable during their lessons. My son thoroughly enjoys his lessons with Jim.

I have really enjoyed taking guitar lessons with Jim these past 3 years. I started from scratch with a little experience with music, but none with guitar or voice. From day 1, Jim taught me the essential chords, and I was able to choose my own songs to play. Jim encouraged me to sing along and I really appreciated this additional element in my practice. Jim provides amazing feedback and is a great motivator. I highly recommend his classes, whether you are a beginner like I was, or need to spruce up your skills, or are already an accomplished player.
Jim transformed my relationship with music. I always believed that I could be a great guitarist but stayed stuck at a barely intermediate level.. but after taking Jim's classes he pointed to the missing links in the chain and right away, my level of integrity as a musician was on a different level. Jim not only has a great ear for music and skill to play and sing at an excellent level, he has so much experience in the music industry that whoever you want to be, he can show you the next steps that you should be taking.. and he enjoys doing it, leaves it all up on the mat. If you are serious, he is your guy. Also, there are great musicians, and being a great teacher is a different skill. He is both. And he helped me prepare a guitar/singing performance for my bride on the day of our wedding which will always be special for us. Thank you Jim!
