Sloppy work. I really trusted Jim and he let me down. I hired him to do some renovations to my 100 year old childhood home. My house is worse off now than it was before. He cut out holes in my original hardwood floors for an air duct vent and the cuts aren't even straight and the vents won't lay properly. It looks terrible. He installed a new front door that won't even lock! Jim also installed a stand up shower that is overlapping the trim on my bathroom window and had me buy materials for projects he wasn't ready for. Now I have a bunch of left over hardware and materials that can't be returned and I don't know what it was supposed to be used for. That's just some of went wrong. There were water lines run to the upstairs bathroom that don't line up properly with my sink too. I wish I would've stopped working with him a long time ago. Now I have to pay someone else to fix these things. This is wrong and he knows it but will not admit it. I'm convinced he's delusional because no one in their right mind would think that this is okay. Jim, you're lying to yourself if you say you're proud of this work. Pictures don't lie.

Jim was awesome! I requested for him to look at a window in which I thought I had a leak and he figured it out and didn’t have to replace the window after all! He completed the work quickly and it looks great and will hopefully keep the water out. I look forward to using him in the future as he was very pleasant to work with.
Jim of Kerby Construction did a fantastic job rehabbing the screened porch. No surprises, on time and the finished job exceeded my expectations. The porch was riddled with wood rot, loose and torn screens, and had poor drainage. I can now use the porch the way I wanted when buying the house. I recommend Kerby Construction for these kind of projects without hesitation.
Jim did an excellent job, is reliable and did quality work. I would hire him again for my next project.
My first negative review on Thumbtack after hiring over a dozen contractors. Jim Kerby is unethical, dishonest and a liar. I contacted Jim to help remove Cabinets from my home. He responded back and said it would cost $65/hr. I asked him to come by to give me a time estimate. He said he would come between 10a and 11a on Friday. I stayed home and waited but he did not show up. He called around 3p and said he was sorry and could come within 30 minutes. He arrived and after seeing the location/property, said he would charge $100/hr to do the work and that it would take him about an hour or an hour and a half to remove the center portion. My wife felt bad as he was elderly and agreed to the hourly rate. We then decided the remove additional pieces (shelves on each side) and called and asked if it would be okay. He said it would be fine and would not take much longer. Jim arrived on Sunday March 15th shortly after 8a with another individual. Jim started removing the center piece which took him about 30 minutes. The individual who came with him thought those were beautiful oak cabinets and sent a picture to his brother who wanted to put those in his house. They started removing the pieces carefully to avoid damage which took about an hour. After removing the center and additional two cabinets they waited for the third individual to arrive to collect the cabinets. He arrived an hour later. I made a comment to Jim that I should not have to pay for the time they were waiting. I also pointed out that removing the cabinets without damaging was more time consuming and I should not have to pay for additional time. He nodded but didn't say anything. About 10:30a the third individual arrived and they started carrying the cabinets to his truck. It took them about an hour to load and secure the cabinets on the truck. They also asked me for additional fasteners which I was able to provide to secure the cabinets. At 11:40a, I asked Jim for how much and he said $400. I thought he was joking but that was not the case. He then got on his phone and said he had an emergency and needed to leave. The area was still full of wood chips, nails and other residue but Jim and his associate collected their belongings and started to leave. I did not want to argue and wrote him a check for $400 and he left. I called my wife and told her about the experience and she was furious and felt betrayed. She called Jim and complained and he lied to her and said he came with three individuals at 8a and worked nonstop until 12n. He also said that it took him much longer because there was far more work. That was not the case. The primary portion was the center part and the others were attached by only a couple of screws. The structure was secure from wall to wall and after removing the center, it all simply came apart. The story does not end here. After Jim left, I noticed that my newly installed and finished hardwood floor had a deep chip. Only something heavy with a sharp corner could have caused that. The floor was beautifully finished the day before and no one had even walked on it. We had no one else in the house and it was 3 feet from the tiles (entry way has tiles) and appeared that someone dropped a heavy object with a corner. I was extremely upset and called Jim and asked if he had insurance and/or would fix that damage. He asked for the pictures which I sent. He said he wanted to come and take a look as well. I said he could. He later texted and said the flooring company put faulty wood and I needed to call them to fix that. I told him that floor was finished without a blemish and this was very obvious fresh chip. He refused to come back and have a look. I told him that I would put a stop payment on the check and he threatened to take me to court. I was tempted but I did not want further complications that came with interacting with Jim. I read reviews before I hire but we all make mistakes and I should not have ignored the red flags. $65 to $100/hr, not showing up when promised etc. I truly appreciate everyone who takes the time to write detailed objective reviews so others would be warned and make the right choice. I will never chose or recommend Jim Kerby! I have more texts and picture of damaged floor. But I believe this should be enough warning for most of us.
Work well done, very professional contractor, very punctual.
Jim is excellent. A very personable man and he does exemplary work. Our project was not a straightforward one and he exceeded our expectations. We are already planning to use him for future projects.
Jim did a fantastic job on my framing project. Showed up on time, did good work, and charged a fair price. Highly recommend Kerby Construction!
Overall the experience was very very good. There was only 1 or 2 little items that should be noted. Responsiveness - When his worker did not show up - was not informed of this until I called Jim. This happened twice which caused a slight delay - but in the end everything worked out fine and the project was completed lower than quoted hours. I am very pleased with the finished greenhouse build and will have plans to work with Jim on other projects as they come up.
Jim was awesome. Figured out the issue for me. Fixed the issue in less than an hour. He cleaned up and was super personable professional and friendly. Will hire him again for projects!
