Having never used a contractor for remodeling, I found MD Construction on the Thumbprint app. I needed a bathroom ceiling and two bedroom walls installed and was paying to have it done, even though my son-in-law and daughter actually own the home. I stay in the lower level walkout and MD Instruction was made aware of this. The construction owner was personable and came across as being very knowledgeable about my job needs, so I felt comfortable in hiring his company. However, after one day of working, I told him I was not happy with the way he roughly cut the ceiling dry wall around the sewer pipe(s). He told me that it's hard to cut around pipes, but he would try filling the big gaps with putty. The second day, when he was finished with the jobs and I was going to pay him, I told him the putty job in the bathroom was still not acceptable. It was very lumpy and rough looking. He then informed me that I could do the sanding and he was knocking $100 off of the $6,700 total for the needed sanding. I was so shocked that I didn't know what to say. That evening, my son-in-law inspected the jobs and found many unacceptable issues, not only around the bathroom pipes, but also the ceiling and two walls. So, he contacted MD Construction. After some discussion, the company owner agreed to come back to fix them. We stuck blue post-it notes by all the bad areas. They came back and did about three hours of filling bad spots on the walls and put putty around the bathroom pipes and then they left without touching base with me or my son-in-law. I thought maybe they went to lunch. After a few hours, I texted the owner to ask him if he was coming back. He texted me and simply said, "The only thing there is to do is sanding." This would be all the new putty he just did, so I texted back and said, "Are you coming back to do that? I spoke to several dry wall hangers and also googled it and it is the job of the dry wall hanger to do all the sanding prep before the painter comes in. Also, you should not expect me to sand around the bathroom pipes. You did not ask me, beforehand and took $100 off the price and then informed me I could do it. I am not healthy and cannot do it." At this point, he still has not texted or called back. It was hard for me to do this review. I am 75 years old and never have done a negative review in my life, but I feel it is necessary to be honest. (The attached pictures are some of the areas where he just puttied, but still need sanding, which he will not take responsibility for.)
