He was accommodating to my hours and made him self available asap, I will use his services again. Highly recommend his work.
Disappointing Outcome, He took advantage of us. Over Doubled the Price last minute, left the area unfinished and so dirty, did not follow ours or the product’s install instructions because he wanted to find an easier way, and took advantage of our situation and being in our home. We needed help on a microcement project and my husband had already done almost half and had all the products but needed an extra hand to finish the other half faster to get ready for a party. We had agreed with Miller on a price the day before for 5 hours or work helping spackled the microcement product on to floor tiles plus 3 hours travel time at his posted hourly rate, I sent every detail about the project and explained it was hand spackling and even sent pictures of the area and the product info so it was very clear what was expected. We needed a handyman day laborer at an hourly rate to assist us in a spackling project that was partly finished and that is exactly what he agreed to. We didn’t need a contractor to manage the product or to use his skills or his tools or his workers or any of the reasons that a contractor would charge more, because we already did all that, we just needed one worker for part of the day. But after showing up to our house, already driving part of the distance we agreed to pay for he charged us over Double the original price! Saying it was different than he thought and needed more skill? It was exactly what I explained and the Sq footage wouldn’t matter because he just needed to work the 5 hours he agreed to, no more. If we had hired a contractor who was going to fully handle the project without my husband doing any of it that would be one thing but then my husband wouldn’t of been out there on his knees doing most of the work, we just needed another set of hands and we were being more than fair! But it was an awkward situation and he put pressure on us by changing the price when he was already in our home and knowing we had agreed to pay for his travel so if we said no to the work I would of still been on the hook to pay him for 3 hours of drive time. So we said yes to the higher price with the understanding he would finish the entire area, not just work 5 hours, and he would act as a professional and know what he was doing. It was a very specific product that has to be hand spackled per its instructions and instead he tried to treat it like normal cement by spreading it with a long squidgy which ended up waisting a ton of product that way. He waisted the first three hours not even working but trying to change the way we did it by watering it down and paint rolling it, only for us to go back to the original way my husband did it, although he still did not even do it right. The area where he did paint roll looks awful and different from the rest and he never went back and fully fixed it, he also got white cement all over our poolside brick in that section and he filled the baby gate holes with cement. He spent over 3 hours, literally doing almost NO work, aside from two buckets trying his new idea and an unnecessary Home Depot run, plus the time discussing and trying to push my husband around into doing it different ways. My husband isn’t confrontational but just needed a helper to show up ready to work asking how he could help not to push him around. Finally, he did 4 hours of actual work, still did not hand spackle, also less than the 5 bourse we agreed on. Then he left without finishing, there was one step literally 3/4 the way done and we still had a bag of product left to finish that and to go around and spackle over any holes or bad spots but he just left expecting my husband to do all that I guess, so why did we pay such a high price? And worse of all he left without cleaning anything, without even removing the blue tape or cleaning off his dirty foot prints! He actually left a shoe imprint cemented in when he stepped on wet cement and never covered it so now I have a lovely dirty shoe print on our floor. My husband was so careful not to step on the white cement, which was clear because the half my husband did the day before was all white, but this guy didn’t care so half of it looks awful! The cement material hardens so fast on the tape and makes it impossible to remove so it needs to be removed right away, so now my husband has to chisel around the tape, and chisel off the cement in the babygate holes and on the brick and sand the extra globy areas he left. He said he needed to charge more for his skill but he did not know what he was doing with this product and my husband kept telling him how to do it but he was so sloppy or thought he knew better and was just trying to rush through without following direction. I explained we are not professionals either and may not be perfect but he was just supposed to help and follow our lead not to change everything for the worse, and the day before he agreed to that then switched it all on us when he was in our home and we were under pressure. He did not do anything extra than what I had already explained the day before. In the end, we paid him because he was in our home and I had babies in the house and we did not want any disagreements but it was ridiculous I feel so taken advantage of. We just needed an hourly worker to assist my husband and he agreed to it then took advantage of us, tried to change the product to suit him and he left the pool deck looking way worse than if my husband had done it alone, the section my husband did the day before looks way cleaner. He knew he was our only option as I explained our rushed situation and stopped looking for another worker when he said yes, so he took advantage of that and way over charged us. My husband should of just done it alone, he probably would of finished faster without all the wasted hours we just wanted him to finish in 5 hours instead of wasting the entire day but that didn’t happen. If he hadn’t forced us into the extra price and left it as is I wouldn’t be as mad since it’s what I expect from an hourly worker, or if he had really done an excellent job and taken pride in his work, and researched the product and made sure the area was cleaned and ready for the next day then I would be okay with paying the extra price although still unhappy he pressured us into changing last minute but He charged like a professional contractor and still acted like an hourly day laborer. At the very least a professional would of helped clean up and finished the entire job. So do not trust his prices even if he agrees to every detail or the project and do not expect quality work even if you do end up paying a ridiculously high price.
Val was quick to respond. He arrived promptly and quickly assessed the job and offered a very reasonable quote. He found a problem with a faucet that I had not noticed, went to Home Depot to get a replacement and completed the job. He was prepared, had all the tools that he needed, worked quickly and explained what he was seeing and doing in a clear and understandable fashion. I will call Val if I need work done in the future; absolutely.
Millers Trades did a very good job of renovating my ceiling and my closet. I’m very satisfied with the quality of the work. I highly recommend them for home repair.
Val did a great job today with the installations. I would definitely recommend him.
