⭐️⭐️ 2/5 Stars — Responsive Communication, but an Extremely Disappointing Moving Experience I am giving this company two stars, and quite frankly, I seriously considered giving them one. The only reason they are receiving two stars is because the gentleman I originally booked with was responsive and initially accommodating. Unfortunately, good communication means very little when the actual service falls this far below expectations. Let me explain. I contacted this company for a moving quote, received one, and scheduled our move. Due to a change in the closing date on a new home, we needed to reschedule. The company was very accommodating, and I appreciated that. We confirmed the revised moving date and time TWICE. Fast-forward to October 25, moving day. Our movers were scheduled to arrive at 9:00 a.m. At 9:05, when no one had arrived, I called to ask where they were. I received a text stating that our appointment was scheduled for 10:00 a.m., along with a screenshot of our ORIGINAL reservation. I immediately responded with a screenshot showing the UPDATED reservation that had already been confirmed. Mistakes happen. I understand that. So, although we were already behind schedule, I agreed to wait until 10:00. Well, 10:15 came, and STILL NO MOVERS. I called again and was informed that there was an issue with the truck and that he was attempting to find someone else to complete the move. My question was simple: Had I not called you, when exactly were you planning to notify me? At this point, we were approaching two hours behind schedule, and I was scrambling to make alternative arrangements. I even went so far as to reserve a rental truck myself because I could not afford to have the entire move fall apart. While I was making those arrangements, I received a message that another moving crew had been located and would arrive in approximately 38 minutes. They arrived about 45 minutes later. And unfortunately, that is when an already frustrating situation became even worse. The replacement crew arrived and repeatedly walked through the property assessing what needed to be moved. I had to ask them to get off their phones and actually work, particularly because I was being charged BY THE HOUR. One of the movers also cleaned trash out of his truck and left it in our driveway. I specifically asked him to pick it up. He assured me he would. He did not. The trash was still there after they left. Additionally, the original moving arrangement included picking up furniture from one location, stopping at a second location to collect bedroom furniture, and delivering everything to the new house. Apparently, the original mover failed to communicate the second pickup location to the replacement crew. How do you arrange a replacement moving company without communicating the full scope of the job? Then, upon arriving at the brand-new home, I was informed that the replacement crew believed they were only responsible for dropping off the furniture, not placing it in the appropriate rooms. Excuse me? I was then told it would cost an additional $50 to have the furniture placed where it belonged. That was NOT the arrangement I made. At this point, we were already hours behind schedule, and I simply needed the furniture moved into the house. But here’s where I became completely disgusted. This is a BRAND-NEW HOME. A NEW BUILD. While attempting to move furniture upstairs, the crew damaged the walls. We are talking dents, scraped and torn paint, and multiple scratches. And this was not even the largest furniture being moved! I was absolutely appalled. These individuals were presented as professional movers. Yet they did not appear to have the appropriate moving equipment, dollies, protective materials, or even shoe covers to protect the floors of a brand-new home. How are you advertising professional moving services but failing to take basic precautions to protect someone’s property? To make matters worse, I later learned that the replacement crew’s hourly rate was actually $20 higher than the original company I booked. So now I’m paying MORE for LESS professionalism, poor coordination, unnecessary delays, and damage to a brand-new home? Absolutely unacceptable. When it came time to settle the bill, I made it clear that I was not comfortable paying the full amount without addressing the damage. I was told the matter could be handled through insurance. However, after everything I had experienced, I had very little confidence in that process. I requested a $150 reduction to account for the damage and inconvenience, which was met with resistance. Let me be clear: Being a nice person does not automatically make you a professional mover. The replacement gentleman was pleasant enough, but the service was anything BUT professional. And while I recognize that the original company did not personally cause the damage, they arranged this replacement crew. When a customer books with your company and relies on you to provide a service, there is an expectation that anyone you send in your place is qualified, properly equipped, and fully informed about the job. That expectation was not met. My advice to anyone considering this company: Confirm every detail in writing, verify who will actually be performing your move, ask about equipment and property protection, and make sure you understand exactly what services are included in your quoted price. Moving is already stressful enough. Moving into a brand-new home should be an exciting experience, not one that ends with damaged walls, additional charges, and frustration. Two stars for responsiveness and the initial accommodation. Unfortunately, the actual moving experience deserves one. I would not use or recommend this service based on my experience.

This pro is responsive to messages. However, didn’t pay attention to the details, was late and missed my furniture pickup time. Payment estimate was not the same as what I was charged.

Thumbtack customerSep 2026

These folks were very responsive and and flexible. The had a fair price and got the job done quickly. They also provided two services in one that no one else could do.

They were great. We moved a 300 lb grill and got it done with ease

**BEWARE. DO NOT HIRE** Movers went to the wrong address despite confirming the correct location and time the night before. Then when they realized they went to the wrong address despite confirming, the movers demanded more money for the move. I was stuck with no options. I waited for over an hour for them to arrive and had to pay more than was originally agreed to. Movers offered no apology or explanation. One of the worst experiences I have ever had! Do not hire them!

They moved the furniture from one location to the next without any problems. They were very professional and courteous.

Thumbtack customerJul 2026

I chose this company because they had a team en route quickly. They kept communicating throughout the pickup and delivery. The pair tried getting the sofa into the elevator at 2:34 then tried the steps after letting me know that would be another $60 on this hot day. After 30 minutes of them trying the stairs didn’t work, I asked them to try the elevator again and went down to the garage to guide them and use the fob to get upstairs. Success. I still got charged the extra $60. I don’t think the men had enough experience to deal with this. They were polite and friendly but it took so much longer than it should have.

I’m thankful for their team’s flexibility and professionalism with getting my fridge relocated downstairs.

This was the worst moving experience I have had. I am writing this review immediately after the movers left. From the initial Thumbtack inquiry, I provided very clear and detailed information. I explained that I was moving from a ground floor apartment to a loft style apartment with multiple sets of stairs. I also spoke with them by phone and reviewed the layout of both locations, including the number of steps, as well as a full breakdown of what items needed to be moved. My move consisted mostly of boxes and a few furniture items (coffee table, mirrors, TV), with no large items like sofas, beds, or dressers. My move also was not a long-distance move, as I am only moving a court over on my property approximately 800 feet apart. I was initially quoted $400. After asking for a breakdown, I was told that was a flat rate option, or pricing would be $100/hour plus $50 for the truck. I agreed to the hourly pricing and shared that I did not believe the move would take more than 2 hours. We also agreed on a 9:00 AM start time. I mentioned that between 9–10 AM would be okay, but was told they would arrive at 9:00 AM. At 12:40 AM the night prior to the move, I was contacted and told, “I can do it for $300, the move is far, gas is expensive, and I need to pay these guys.” I responded and stated that was fine with me. I never intended to pay less than the 3-hour minimum anyway, so that message was confusing. Shortly after, the message was edited to say, “sorry this message was for a friend,”. On move-in day, I received a text at 8:47 AM stating they were 38 minutes away. By 10:06 AM, they still had not arrived, so I asked for an updated ETA. I was told “5 more minutes,” but they did not arrive until 10:15 AM. Once they arrived, I walked them through everything that needed to be moved. They immediately began moving items by hand without wrapping any furniture or using any equipment despite advertising that they provide wrapping. I went and checked the truck and saw minimal supplies, which made me assume they had no intention of wrapping items. Wrapping was not a dealbreaker to me at that point since most of my items were boxed, but it is to be noted that service was not provided as advertised. During the move into the new home, the top of my mirror coffee table was broken due to how it was turned while being carried. While I told them it was not a big deal, it caused about a 30-minute delay because they could not safely continue moving with broken glass on the floor of the entry way . I had to return to my previous apartment to get trash cans and cleaning supplies so the mess could be cleared before they could continue. I also communicated multiple times that anything labeled “bedroom” needed to go all the way upstairs to my loft bedroom. One mover followed this direction, while the other repeatedly left bedroom items on the main floor, which I assume was to avoid the stairs. I am currently recovering from spinal fusion surgery and cannot lift heavy items, which I did communicate to them, so this was especially frustrating on top of the table. The job was completed at 12:25 PM even with accounting for the delay caused by the broken table. (Noting my original estimate of about a 2-hour job was accurate.) At the end of the move, the main mover—who handled their communication—requested payment of $380. He stated there would be an additional charge for the stairs, claiming they were not informed. I explained that I clearly disclosed that both in my Thumbtack request and during our phone conversation. He stated there must have been a misunderstanding. I then asked, given the late arrival, lack of furniture wrapping, and broken item, if that was an appropriate price. He lowered the price to $350 but also attempted to place blame on me, stating I should have warned him that the top of the mirror table could come loose. I was unaware of any such issue, as the table has always been stable and had never come apart during prior moves—and it did not come apart when they initially loaded it. He then mentioned that the adhesive under the mirror could weaken over time, but I have had the table for five years without any issues. I stated that had the table been properly wrapped, as advertised, it likely would not have broken. He did not respond. Nonetheless the entire process, I remained polite and professional, even when addressing concerns. However, I do not feel I received the level of professionalism, care, or accountability that you would expect when trusting movers with your belongings and your home. The second mover was kind, respectful, and attentive especially after I mentioned my medical condition but the main mover was not as professional or considerate. He also showed up wearing Croc slides, which seemed inappropriate for heavy moving work. Overall, I would not recommend this company. I also wish I had taken more time to read reviews beforehand, as many reflect similar experiences to mine.

The movers were very careful with my belongings and we quick and efficient.

They completed a difficult task--transporting a very heavy elliptical machine down narrow stairs--beautifully. They were the first to contact me and they were responsive, professional and overall perfect. I would use them again, and I am grateful that they were able to help me out. 100% recommend!

My experience with New Star Relocation Movers was below my expectations. The company sent only two movers, and they arrived about 40 minutes late. Because I was moving from a condo to a house, I had reserved and paid for the freight elevator with strict time limits, so the delay was very frustrating. One of the movers appeared tired and unmotivated. They also did not bring their own water and repeatedly asked us for drinks. We provided lemon tea, which they drank but said they didn’t like, and then asked for other drinks, so we ended up providing sparkling water as well. While they started off okay, after about three hours they became noticeably impatient. They handled my furniture carelessly and caused visible damage, including a scratch on my bed headboard and a dent in my dresser. These items are expensive and were purchased from West Elm, so this was especially disappointing. After they left, we discovered that one of their bags had been left behind at our place. When we called them to come back, they returned around 9:00 PM but instead of knocking, they honked their horn multiple times, disturbing our neighbors and waking up my two young babies. Overall, the service was not worth the cost, and I would not use this company again.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Incredible Same-Day Service for a Massive Appliance Move! I am absolutely blown away by the service from New Star Relocation! I had a 475-pound Thor kitchen oven delivered outside my home in Waldorf, MD, and had no idea how to get it inside. I reached out to New Star Relocation on a whim, hoping for help—but I never expected what happened next. Not only did they respond within minutes, but their team actually arrived at my door in under an hour! They were professional, friendly, and incredibly efficient. Moving a commercial-grade oven like that is no small task, but they handled it with ease and care—no scratches on the floors, no damage to the oven, and no stress for me. If you need movers who are responsive, reliable, and remarkably skilled, look no further. New Star Relocation saved the day, and I couldn’t be happier. Five stars all the way!

Completely cut the corners on assembling my bed and it fell through in the middle of the night because they only drilled 4 of the 50 holes. For reference this is a quality, West elm bed. It does not fall apart on its own.

Joanna K.Oct 2025

New Star was great - punctual in responding to my messages, great rate, on time and courteous. I will be calling them again.
