I hired this contractor to install two gazebos in my backyard for a total agreed price of $2,800. The payment schedule was: • $700 deposit • $700 after completion of the footings • $700 after completion of Gazebo 1 • $700 after completion of Gazebo 2 I paid the $700 deposit and an additional $700 after being informed that the footings were completed. Unfortunately, after inspecting the work, I found several serious issues with the footing installation: 1. The footings were not laid out in a proper square. 2. The footings were not the same height. 3. The footings were not aligned in a straight line, which raised concerns about how the gazebo legs could be installed correctly. 4. One of the concrete footings cracked the very next day. I consulted other experienced contractors, and they advised that the footing work would need to be corrected before the gazebos could be properly installed. I requested a refund of at least my deposit because the work was incomplete and required removal and rework. The contractor refused, stating that the money had already been spent on materials and labor. I understand that contractors have costs associated with their work, but customers also expect the job to be completed correctly according to the agreed specifications. In this case, I had to hire another contractor to remove and redo the defective footing work, resulting in additional time and expense. My recommendation to anyone considering this contractor is to carefully inspect each phase of the project before releasing milestone payments. I made the payment in good faith based on the contractor’s representation that the footings were complete, but unfortunately, the work did not meet acceptable standards and required additional corrective work.
