I had someone come give me an estimate for resurfacing my deck (and roof but that estimate didn't happen). Without even measuring my deck he quoted me a price of $8,000 for materials then $8,000 for labor. When I said that was more than I expected he started negotiating with me asking me what I wanted to spend. I said I didn't expect it to be more than $10,000 based on what my friends paid for their decks. He said their decks are smaller (how does he know that and he still hasn't measured my deck). THen he told me he didn't have the authority to quote me labor prices and called his boss. He then tells me he overpriced me and labor is only $2000 (suddenly matching my $10,000 suggestion) When I said to have the 'boss' email me a written estimate for the job so I can compare with my other estimates and used the excuse of my dinner being ready to end the estimate (skipping the roof estimate). He then proceeded to start measuring my deck. He started pressuring me for an answer and wanted to know when I would be in touch. At that point I told him my dinner was ready and was finally able to escort him out. The rest of the conversation was confusing and awkward. It was very sketchy, uncomfortable, and untrustworthy.
