In the 6 lessons I’ve had with Reggie, I’m progressing! Reggie keeps me interested in learning; therefore, inspiring me to practice what he’s teaching me. I had some basic guitar knowledge before, but Reggie is teaching me chord progression which improves my finger dexterity. I would recommend Reggie to anyone wanting guitar lessons. Great personality, flexible scheduling, very easy going, & good instructor!

About Reggie Chavez
Hello My name is Reggie Chavez, I am a Phoenix based guitar instructor, and I've enjoyed teaching beginning to advanced guitar, bass students for over 30 years, and slide guitar, lap steel, and dobro for over the past 20 years. My years as a teacher and working musician can provide a student, of any level, the foundation he or she needs to improve their playing, and enjoyment. Having grown up outside of Los Angeles, I had the opportunity to play music in many styles, From top 40/classic rock, to blues, jazz, and country, not to mention playing guitar with one of top rated college jazz ensembles in the Southern California area (at Chaffey College). Roadside honky tonks, and bars, to country clubs, weddings, and hotel/resort engagements. All this experience has provided a solid foundation for me as a teacher, and I bring that experience to my teaching. My education is also an important part of what makes my teaching stand out. Along with "on the job training", and opportunity to learn from the many "seasoned" pros I've had the pleasure to work with, I've had the opportunity to study at the academic level, and privately, with some of best musicians/educators. Joyce Shannon, at Chaffey College (theory, and ear training, sight singing), Jack Mason, and Jim Linahon, Chaffey College Jazz Ensamble. Eddie Arkin (scales, modes, chord study and jazz guitar in general), Dave Patt (sight reading), Jody Fisher (everything guitar, and mentor). Along with my private study, I attended The Dick Grove School on Music. My education there included classes on improvisation, theory/harmony, rhythmic sight reading, and special seminars with Tommy Tedesco, Eddie Arkin, Dave Patt, and Jimmy Wybel. For 19 years, I was on the staff of NGW (National Guitar Workshop), a summer guitar program. At NGW, I taught classes, in blues, and rock guitar, and a blues seminar called Blues Chops. These workshops, and seminars were taught at universities, and colleges across the US including Redlands Ca, Claremont Ca. San Francisco, Austin Tx, Chicago, Nashville Tn, and Connecticut. I bring this, and much more to all my lessons. Along with my teaching, and other musical projects, I’m currently playing guitar with the Phoenix College Jazz Ensemble. The opportunity to see the look in as on a student "get it". The joy of seeing, and the look of satisfaction when a student reaches a certain goal, or level of accomplishment. I also enjoy playing music, and interacting with my students. Playing rhythm guitar, while student learns how to improvise. Or, teaching the student how to sing a song and play rhythm guitar.

I am currently working with Reggie! He has a cast knowledge and understanding of music. I am in a band and have some understanding of some basic concepts and in a few lessons he has already opened up a world of understanding and applicable knowledge that I have been able to apply to my band right away. He is helping me learn to advance my lead guitar abilities and clears up every off topic question/ confusion I have. He even broke down of my of band song solos to help me understand how it was written and how I can apply it to my own work in the future! He was very quick to get me started in a direction to continue my guitar skills from where they are at currently at.
Lessons with Reggie were such a joy. I studied with him last summer when I was in Phoenix to support a loved one undergoing medical treatment. He is a wonderful music teacher. He prepares, creates lessons and assignments tailored to the student. I grew a lot musically and truly appreciate it. I highly recommend him.
A true Pro! Took me right to where I wanted to focus in on with my playing. A delight to work with from an older student perspective. He breaks it down to me with out making me feel like I'm being talked down to. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn the Guitar.
Reggie is awesome at what he does. He is teaching guitar to my 7 year old daughter. He keeps her engaged and her progress has been terrific in such a short period of time. He is a pleasure to be around and is always prompt and responsive. I would highly recommend him and look forward to working with him every week.
A good teacher, providing music vocabulary, explanation of technique, and easy to follow lesson to practice.
I've been playing for 30 years and Reggie is the only teacher I've had that has made a real difference in my playing. He's the best guitar teacher in the valley. Just hire him. You won't regret it.
Teaching me better techniques and various types of music.
Reggie works with you on what you want to play and builds on your skills from the music you like. I recommend him to any level of skill level.
Took my first lesson. Reggie understands my needs and is designing a series of lessons specifically for me.
