ONE STAR FOR SHOWING UP AT 8:00 AM AS PROMISED. ZERO STARS FOR EVERYTHING THAT ACTUALLY MATTERED. (Please read through to the end where I discuss what Max’s response was when I complained to him about the technician’s visit.) I found Max and Rodent Masters through Thumbtack because I was urgently looking for someone to help me with a serious and ongoing rat problem on my arpartment’s private patio. This is not a situation where I saw one rat outside and panicked. I have five cameras covering my doors, private patio/garden and garage, and they have been up for over a year. I have a year’s worth of photographs and videos documenting rat activity, including footage from night after night. Over the course of that year, I have repeatedly sent my landlord photographs and videos showing what is happening, and the problem has still not been addressed. There’s a bait station on my side yard and a bait station in the garage. The activity isn’t limited to my private patio, either. There is also rat activity in a common area approximately two feet from my front door. There are bait stations all over the building. My landlord won’t go beyond bait stations because he says rats are everywhere. He doesn’t offer to plug ratholes. He found rat droppings in my storage unit where there are entry points. Solution was to throw poison in there. Not to ask me to pull everything out make sure there was no nest and or any other activity, clean out the rat poop and then disinfect the place. After a year of documenting this and trying to get my landlord to address it, I finally decided to take matters into my own hands. I began calling pest-control companies myself and was prepared to pay for the work out of my own pocket. When I spoke with Max at Rodent Masters, I was completely upfront about the situation. I explained that I have trauma from previous experiences with rats and that what is happening around my home is causing me tremendous distress. I became emotional talking about it. I am losing sleep over this. Max sounded incredibly empathetic. I genuinely felt as though he heard me and understood how important this was to me. I thought I had found someone who was going to help. Max told me that his company, Rodent Masters, would not perform work on the property without the property owner’s permission. I immediately contacted my landlord, explained that I was hiring the company myself and paying for the work out of my own pocket, and obtained his approval. My landlord then spoke directly with Max. So there was no permission issue preventing them from inspecting the property or performing the work I was prepared to pay for. I did exactly what they asked me to do. During my conversation with Max, I explained everything that was going on. The places I wanted him to check, how often I was seeing the activity and how traumatized I was. It was around 3pm and I realized that it would be helpful for Max to have a list of areas and descriptions of each area and what the issue is. I told him I would make a list of exactly what I needed done. You never know when people are driving and maybe didn’t have the opportunity to write everything down. And because neither Max nor anyone from his company had ever been to my property, I wanted to make absolutely certain they understood the layout and what I needed inspected and if they were able to find the time, maybe they would be able to bring the appropriate materials needed to plug holes and seal off entryways. So instead of simply making a list, I created a FIVE-PAGE POWERPOINT PRESENTATION for them. Please see attached photos for a continuation of this experience with Rodent Masters.
