Hired Max to skim coat and sand and smooth and paint a 10x12 drywall kitchen ceiling. His estimate was 2 times more than anyone else, but because of his great reviews and what he said he'd do, we went with him. He said the job would take 3 days. when the actual work started, he came and put mudding on some of the problem areas but didn't skim coat the entire ceiling as the contract stated. He had a guy sometimes show up over the next 5 and a half weeks to constantly mud the problem areas, made new problem areas and left a ton of tools and equipment on our back porch for the 5 and 1/2 weeks. The equipment took up half of our porch. After 2 and 1/2 weeks, Max's guy said he was done and was going to paint. The ceiling was a mess and Max came over to look at it. Max agreed that the ceiling looked terrible and said he'd be back on Monday himelf to make it right. Over the next 3 weeks Max did many No shows or he, or his guy, would show up for an hour or two and keep adding mud. We showed him the new problem areas he was making and he agreed, so he knew the job he was doing was a very bad one. After 3 days of no shows, when he said he'd be out at our house at 9am, we parted ways with Max. He made a complete mess of our ceiling! He said he'd give us our money back with a text communication. We gave him until the next day to pick up all his equipment and tools. The next day, he gave us an excuse as to why he couldn't pick his stuff up. We told him we'd put his stuff outside and he was there within the hour to pick up his stuff. He said he'd give us our money back that evening. We were kind and patient during the entire 5 and 1/2 weeks, and it seemed Max was trying to get us to explode with anger with him so he didn't have to give us our money back. We had to file a complaint with Thumbtack and told them the story of what happened, sent pictures of the mess he made, and a copy of his text saying he'd give us our money back. After that, he finally gave us our money back. We hired a new pro who fixed the mess Max and his worker left and this guy did it in a day and a half and did a great job and still charged less than half of what Max was trying to charge us. It was discovered that Max had lowered the ceiling, in some places, by half an inch. I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM Royalty Carpentry!!! I don't know how they got such great reviews! The quality of work and professionalism was the worst we've EVER gotten from anyone who's worked on our house! And this includes a guy who thought our radiator heaters were little water heaters.

Max and Ralph were so wonderful. They built me a chicken coop (palace). There were a few unforeseen curve balls that were thrown at them but they still hit it out of the park. There was attention to detail that I didn’t even think about that they thought of. On top of that, they are so nice, dedicated to their work, and work with integrity. I will hire them again for any projects that come my way. Thank you gentlemen!
