I came upon Barbara on Thumbtack on a whim. I had recently been promoted into a new community engagement leadership position, and all I found in my wardrobe was the casual, athletic wear clothing I had been ‘“making-do” with for several years. I reached out to several stylists on Thumbtack, posting that I was bored with clothing that reflects who I was in a previous phase of life and that I wanted clothes that reflect who I am becoming. “I don’t want clothes to wear me, I want them to express me.” Barbara from Intuitive Personal Styling (her new business name) called me back within an hour, and we connected so well that I hired a stylist for the first time in my life. Barbara walked me through her process of having me try on current clothing, then choosing new pieces to put in my online Nordstrom Rack cart for me to purchase so we can test out new looks. We went on an adventure over the next several weeks, sifting and sorting, discarding and envisioning, bargain-hunting, and having fun playing mix-and-match. She even took pictures of each new look so I would remember different combinations later. Here is what I have learned along the way: Barbara is an excellent listener, a skilled stylist, a great bargain-hunter, and a fantastic coach. She has updated my sense of fashion, of course, but she has also coached me how to layer and style clothing choices to create texture, line, structure, symmetry/asymmetry, contrast, and emotion (“Zshuzsh it, zshush it!”). These skills have added gravitas to my wardrobe that genuinely expresses the gravitas I have earned in my personal and professional life. It is this creativity and sense of playfulness that we brought out in each other as we worked that I value the most. Our work was both intuitive and fun, and I would work with her again in a heartbeat. I am now enjoying expressing who I am becoming through these new looks, and the compliments I am receiving tell me that Barbara and I together have co-created exactly what I envisioned. Step 2 - CURATED REMOTE SHOPPING From what was accomplished in your Remix session I will curate a custom capsule of clothing, shoes, and accessories to expand, build or rebuild your wardrobe. All selections are 100% returnable. This session is a stand-by - text-only session. I do all of your shopping for you. All you have to do is pay and ship directly to your home. Step 3- THE STYLING PARTY Together we fit and style everything that has arrived. I photograph full looks as we go and text you, creating a style guide on your phone. At the end of this session we make decisions of what you want to keep and return what is not needed. Now getting dressed feels effortless, flexible, and FUN. I met with barbra to overhaul my wardrobe. She's very friendly and upbeat, we got to know each other and discussed life a bit before getting to talking style. We went through my current wardrobe and discussed what worked. Then barb does all the shopping. Once the new clothes came in, we got on a call to go through every outfit. In the end I got a great new wardrobe Im very happy with. And some knowledge to help build my own outfits. All in all great experience and I highly recommend her!

Barbara is truly intuitive. From our initial conversation she gauged exactly where I was and where I wanted to get to. On our styling day, I myself was feeling like the new me! I went from a traditional masculine woman to a modern feminine! Which is who I had become but my clothes now reflected the real me! Such a joy to wake up and be excited for picking out my outfits! I needed several outfits for my engagement photos and for my wedding welcome dinner, and needed them quickly! On a whim, I decided to try a personal stylist for the first time. Barbra was very responsive and understood the urgency of the situation - I had been looking for months, but hadn't found anything I loved, and wanted these outfits to be really special. She has an amazing eye, and picked tons of things I would never have picked out for myself. We ordered a huge number of things on Anthropologie, knowing that I would return a bunch but that we were hoping I would find at least 2 great dresses for my engagement shoot that was just 2 days away! While I obviously didn't keep everything, I was so happy with the dresses I ended up picking for my engagement shoot, and also found a dress for my welcome dinner and a few extra fun dresses and pairs of shoes. She spent so much time with me trying on the outfits and listening to my feedback. She was also very body positive, which is something I have been struggling with, and probably part of the reason I wasn't having luck finding clothes I loved. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Barbra again - we're so happy with how our pictures turned out!
TLDR: Barbara is a miracle worker and working with her is a worthwhile investment in yourself! I feel incredibly fortunate to have found Barbara after receiving an invite to a small beach wedding this summer. I am 45 yrs old, wfh home since 2019, recently lost almost 100lbs, and have hidden my tattoos under a goth/mod style - a'la Torrid - for the last 15 years. I've always dreaded summer clothing, and would find ways to wear sleeves and pants even in the hottest days! Barbara was able to help coach me to a new outlook, found looks that met all the requirements for wedding attire, and also pushed me to try colors and shapes I never would have on my own! As a result, I've traded using clothes to hide myself and my tattoos for having fun and being creative with them again! She's got a great eye for excellent, cost effective pieces that will be in my wardrobe for years to come. In our sessions she honed in on accentuating positive areas I couldn't see for myself and ways I could adapt to a new situation, mindset and body!
Barbra was an awesome person to work with. She's fun, engaging, and knowledgeable. She helped me make a game plan for my first celebrity/ streetwear style look. Recreating this Nicopanda/ Nicola Formichetti look that Colton Haynes wore. It's definitely going to be worth your while to work with her. Wow! Barbra helped style my young adult daughter who’d recently lost a large amount of weight. Not only was the experience fun, but truly transformational for my daughter, who now sees her body—& herself—in a new light!
