Why learn with us? Because you deserve more than someone who just shows up for a lesson once a week. Whether your dream is jamming with friends, recording your own music, or performing on a big stage, we build a personalized path around where you want to go. We've helped over 6,000 students who started in your shoes. You'll learn from national-level mentors who create a plan around your goals, experience, and the kind of musician you want to become. First lessons for my daughter have her so excited for this new adventure with learning guitar.
WES!! I can’t find enough great words. He was encouraging and patient and very VERY knowledgeable. He was easy to work with even when I have the slowest chord changes in the free world.
I was 10 minutes late I told I was gonna be late and I was asking for help about the paperwork to get set up, he barley helped at all and canceled my lesson that I paid for and didn’t get a refund, I’m really not the type to leave bad reviews but this was horrible don’t waste your time going here
In case the review is too lengthy and I bury the lead, the names Travis (didn't get the last name) and Marc Bernal are the main take-aways from this post. Travis, my advisor, took the drivel I wrote in my interview and linked me up with a solid pianist and instructor, Marc Bernal. I am 36-years-old, and guitar is my weapon of choice. While I'm just a hobbyist, with no desire to perform or work in sound/music, I've branched out into bass, synths, samplers, and other areas of audio manipulation over the years. Everything was self taught, so it was finally time to pull the trigger on some real music lessons, and piano seemed like the optimal choice. And while my time taking lessons was short lived due to a local instructor contacting me for in-person lessons, my time was certainly not wasted with StookU. Based on my written interview, Travis searched for mentors/instructors to best fit what he felt would fit my vibe on the piano. I was not disappointed. In just 4, 30 min. lessons with Marc Bernal, progression was evident. My speed, dexterity, and awareness of keys in general showed observable improvement. Despite a few technical hang-ups in the beginning, no problems occurred during any of the lessons. And the technical issues were more on my end than Marc's. Mr. Bernal was always punctual with a great attitude and an eagerness to share his knowledge of the instrument. It's clear Marc is not only passionate about the piano, but passionate about showing others what a versatile and elegant instrument it is. This might sound like I'm laying it on a little thick, but people underestimate how important these traits are for anyone who teaches anything. And it should be noted that I'm a solid student in most regards. However, I believe even someone that isn't excited as I am about learning new things, would stand to gain musical prowess from this. Attitude is everything, people! Before I conclude this review, I'd like to shout out Travis one more time. As an experimental, genre-hopping, wanna-be-multi-instrumentalist, the information I gave him in my interview must have been difficult for him to navigate. But he did. That was some solid instructor/student matchmaking. One last thing before I submit: StookU takes an interesting approach to music lessons, and I'm personally a fan of it. Any thing bad I might have to say is more reflective of growing pains of a young company than a shoddy business model and/or practices. It's totally worth a shot. At least try a month. I'm confident there will be progress.
I was told that I needed to notify 24 hours in advance. If I wanted to cancel any voice lessons after one lesson I decided to go with a different vocal coach. I sent a message to cancel all future lessons the day before the lesson was scheduled. I got a call or a message saying that without verbal notification they weren’t able to cancel the lesson so then I called gave them verbal notification, but they said since they already took the money out for the next one that I was not able to get a refund $120 they will not refund me even though I had no singing lesson. He refused to let me talk to a supervisor about it and I’m very upset.
felt comfortable on my very first lesson... couldn't believe the difference in my voice after 1 hour!!
stooku is awful, they lie and lie to get you to subscribe and once you subscribe its all out the window. horrible customer service. I just got belittled over the phone for trying to use a "credit" for a lesson i paid for and didn't receive. and they canceled all further lessons because I wanted to use my credit instead of paying for the lesson
Had a lesson scheduled today. Teacher was a no show. I sat there the entire hour, waiting for anything. Sometimes things happen, I get it. But no emails, calls, messages, nothing. I call the student hotline and of course no one answers. Message says, they are all busy but you're first in line to be called back. I leave a message. No call back either. But I'll bet a shiny new time when I look at my bank statement they will have charged me for the lesson (which isn't cheap, $67). I'd also bet if I request a quote, I'd get a call instantly. That's a fail stooku.
I've been taking lessons from Johnny Ray Hubbard for a couple months and he's fantastic. Really friendly, passionate, and it's always easy to ask him questions. Highly recommended!
The portal works seamlessly, the instructors are top notch, and he just launched a community portal with a lot of great resources. Instructors actually drop in great materials for you to reference between lessons. Happy student.
TJ Chainz is an awesome instructor, very informative and knows his stuff. He's helped me open my voice to so many cool possibilities and really helped me open up to pursue my passion in music. Rock on TJ!
My son has been working with StookU for nearly two years now. He loves his instructor and has learned a lot on the guitar. I am happy we found them!

I’ve been taking StookU for the last 3-4 months and it is amazing. Yeah, the price is a bit steep but I’ve never sang better in my life. So, if you’re looking to hone your music skills, StookU is the place for you. - Rogelio Ramirez
