We thought that our (expensive!) Italian sheet would never be the same when its top decorative trim tore. Seemed too delicate to repair but I just asked Patricia to ‘make it useable’ even if that meant cutting off the top ~6 inches and hemming it all the way across. Patricia worked with precision and care to put a sort of cross-stitching at the torn area and save that pricey Italian trim touch! We are so delighted and will be returning to Patricia for any/all of our sewing needs now that we see her professionalism and attention to detail! Please see before and after photos. She was able to provide alterations at the last minute for my birthday and the outfit turned out great. She was accommodating with time and worked with my schedule at the last minute. I will definitely be back in the future.
I hired this seamstress to convert a skirt I loved into a pair of Palazzo pants. Before bringing the garment to her, I sent a photo of the fabric and a picture of the exact style of pants I wanted. She assured me that it would be “easy” and “no problem.” Based on that confidence, I left the skirt with her. Six weeks went by with no indication that there were any issues. At no point did she communicate that there might be limitations, challenges, or concerns with the fabric or design. When I arrived for pickup, she attempted to hand the pants to me through the door and seemed eager for me to leave without trying them on. I insisted on trying them on — and I’m glad I did. The pants looked nothing like Palazzo pants. They were poorly structured and resembled exaggerated hammer pants. The workmanship was extremely disappointing. The most troubling part of this experience is not just the poor result — it’s the lack of transparency and accountability. If she did not know how to execute the design I requested, she should have said so upfront. If she discovered during the process that she could not achieve the look, she should have communicated that before cutting my fabric. Instead, she proceeded without saying anything and only addressed the issue when I pointed out how badly the pants fit and looked. She then blamed the fabric — the same fabric she had already seen in photos and in person before agreeing to the project. My original skirt has now been cut, and I don’t know if another seamstress can salvage the fabric to create what I originally wanted. That loss cannot be undone. To her credit, she refunded 50% of my payment when I asked. However, the issue here is competence and accountability. Thumbtack is valuable because clients rely on professionals to honestly assess whether they can complete a job before accepting it. Taking on work you cannot execute — and failing to communicate issues along the way — undermines trust in the platform. I would not recommend her services.
