It started out positive, but I should have seen how it would end because of the communication issues. It was like "pulling teeth" to get a response, let alone a timely one, from him. I initially chose him because he was the only one with a two-hour minimum charge. I didn't need three hours or the cost of that much time for what little I needed moved and the very short distance it was. This tidbit of information is no longer visible. Plus, after speaking with him, I was going to get a "Senior" and "Military" discount from him to lower the cost even more. I asked for a quote with all this information so I could review it. He told me to give him my email, and I would get it that night. It didn't come, and I had to ask several times. When I did get it, it was not like we discussed. That alarmed me. I called him, and he assured me it was just an "outside" estimate to cover in case it went over the two hours. That raised flags, but I try to be fair and trusting. He assured me it would be adjusted to two hours if it didn't take more than that, with the discounts. I did some math and wrote down what it would cost for the two hours. I only had a few pieces of furniture in a storage facility less than five miles from my apartment to have moved to my apartment. A desk, a long 'furniture' type china cabinet, a small curio cabinet, desk chair, file cabinet, two small bookcases, and a coffee table to move. I moved everything into one unit and set it up the way it needed to be loaded onto the truck. Instead, they put it on haphazardly and ended up dumping things left in my desk from the other "ignorant" movers I had, "Rowes Moving" out of PCola. I thought it had just dropped into another drawer, so I wasn't worried at the time. I gave them brand-new moving blankets, which I knew I would never use again, for their business too. I helped with moving the stuff too. I even took things down myself to help things move a little faster. We got to the apartment, and they started unloading when I specifically told them not to bring the stuff off first, but they did because it would be in the way. I only had so much room in my apartment. Things had to come in in a specific order because of the lack of space and the size of the items. Because they wouldn't listen, I had to have them leave things outside the apartment until the items that needed to come in first were brought in. They didn't even have to put everything away. Just the desk and china cabinet. I had them sit the other stuff in the middle of the room, and I would decide where to put it later. During this time, I gave them some cold water since it was hot outside. I didn't expect them to take a long break since I was on a time limit. I now realize that was to milk the time for more time. The main guy wasn't even there like I expected. It was just his two workers. They came in like I knew what I was going to pay them, and I told them I had no idea since the quote he gave me wasn't what we talked about. I could not get to it because I was blocked out of my kitchen. They said they had to go out and call him. I stood and waited for a while, and they came in and said he needed to talk to me, without telling me it was on speaker; I put it to my ear and was startled. I was put on the spot. I was tired and didn't have the paper with the figures for what I should have paid him for just two hours, which is what he said it was. He charged me full rate and said he had given me "deep" discounts and would not honor the military or senior discount. I was made to pay more than we talked about. I was furious. I talked to him about this later, and there was also a problem with the desk. I couldn't get a drawer out or closed because the stuff that fell was behind it, not in it. He told me he would be back in town on Wednesday and come help me fix it. He never showed, and he never spoke to me again. I am furious with him. I am on a fixed income. I had a LOT of stuff to move, and they worked hard the entire time without wasting a minute. They made what could have been a very stressful moving day so much easier for me. Everything was handled carefully, and they did a great job getting me settled into my new apartment. I truly appreciated their positive attitudes and how smoothly they kept everything moving.
