I appreciate Johnandrew’s professionalism, as I see he has an overall vision for his students. One of the things that I enjoy and appreciate is that he can reel me back in when I feel like I can accomplish a difficult piece in and a short period of time. He focuses on tools to build to create a strong foundation to become a accomplished pianist. Johnandrew is a talented teacher where he encompasses wonderful communication skills for one to understand skills and the easiest approach to succeed. These tools may seem elementary, however, in time allows one to have a solid foundation. I feel like his style of teaching is comprehensive-but comfortable and uplifting. He doesn’t have an overpowering personality that’s so driven or strict that would shadow shame and for me that’s important for creative expression and musical growth. He incorporates tools to try that I would never think of- so a bit of thinking outside of the box. It’s a bit inventive. Its certainly been a good investment for me as an older adult. There is so much to grasp in a 90 minute lesson- and I can appreciate that. He is a wonderful musician to hear as well. He’s a talented gem and I’m grateful to find him.

As your instructor, I am committed to guiding your growth as a musician, pianist, and person. Progress takes time and effort by all parties, and my job is to uphold my end of our mutual contract. We begin with a thorough discussion of your goals at the piano, including where you've come from, where you hope to go, and what is most important to you in music and in life. Lessons are customized to your needs and goals: in fact, we plot short-, medium-, and long-term goals when we begin our work together. I chart us a path forward with methods, materials, and techniques drawn from decades of experience. I have taught students from the youngest beginners to age 90. My best teaching, I think, happens when helping students to unlock latent potential and reach goals they haven't yet conceived. A bit about me: I earned a doctorate, two master's degrees, and a bachelor's degree (in addition to the prestigious Performer's Certificate--the only pianist to have received this honor since 2006) from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. I have spent 15 years teaching in higher education and I have been a full-time professor teaching music theory, piano, chamber music, music history, and more. I believe in well-rounded musicianship--that priority has deeply shaped how I think and teach. I have performed and taught throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe, and my recordings have been broadcast on public television, public radio, and syndicates nationwide.
